and shared public space that reduces water use ensures that Inspirada
will be both beautiful and environmentally responsible.
The idea of New Urbanism emerged in the early 1980s as a reaction to suburban
sprawl. Its goal is to recreate the feel of towns and cities that were developed
before the widespread use of automobiles in the 1950s. The New Urbanism design
creates environmentally sustainable communities by reducing the need for automobiles.
